On the basis of clinical examination were revealed significant changes in the treatment of patients who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, say experts.
Researchers from the University of Amsterdam conducted a test that included 755 patients, and they observed the effectiveness of drug Rituximab, when given along with a medicine called Methotrexat.
All members of the research were diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis and for 12 months have received methotrexat or rituximab in combination with methotrexatom.
Researchers have found that the number of patients who had symptoms of illness withdrawn was almost three times higher in the group who was receiving a combination of drugs, then in the group who was receiving only methotrexat.
Symptoms were after one year withdrawn in almost one third (30.5%) of patients who received a combination of medication, compared with only 12.5% of patients who had taken only methotrexat.
Discovery was presented at the annual conference of European society in the fight against rheumatic diseases, and could be significant change in the way patients are treated, said Professor John Isaacs, a leading Rheumatologist from the University of Newcastle.
The experts added: "These good data show that the ritximab should be applied as early as possible in the treatment of patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis."
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease of connective tissue, and it is considered that encompasses approximately 1% of the population.
