Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is arthritis in one or more joints that occur at the age 16 and below and lasts at least for 6 weeks.
There are 3 main forms of Juvenile idiopathic arthritis:
1. Polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis or juvenile idiopathic arthritis with polyarticular tendencies - affects 5 or more joints
2. Oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis - affects 4 or fewer joints
3. Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis - characterized by expressed increase of temperature, rash and arthritis of various joints.
Although the cause of Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is unknown, genetic factors associated with the immune system and viral factors may be included.
